"Mother Fracker" is a cautionary tale straight out of today's headlines. Imagine fracking for natural gas showing up one day right next door in a place like pristine, rural Rappahannock County, Va. That's what happens to Tip Tyler, a former environmental journalist living off the grid working his family's Piedmont Virginia orchard. Comely engineer Roxx Bleigh seems to be right in the middle of it all as she cavorts in the hills and hollers with Tip's pal, rancher Provo Starke. Bullets fly and earthquakes rattle the nerves of the locals, but there's always time for a locavore meal, a fine Cabernet Franc and some frisky sex.
Of these 18 stories, many of my favorites were in the second half of the book.
The Dwarf--3 stars--a woman tries to help a little person being bullied by her coworker at the pier carnival, with disastrous results.
The Next in Line--4 stars--husband and wife on a vacation in Mexico visit the mummies in the local cemetery: people whose families can't afford to pay the rent on their graves. Put together by excellent contemporary mycologists, this is the new best reference to this group of fungi for NA. Margaret is a woman who must have the last word. Moreover, it also gives details on how to flesh out spirits and information on their predatory spirit-eat-spirit hierarchy. I do find this most useful in the car but less so around the house. If you purchase this book expecting to read the original novel from the 80's I hate to inform you that you're not. I highly recommend it for any aerospace or mechanical engineer, or any scientific mind who want to learn more about t
